Meter Parking at DOWNTOWN CHICAGO

Does anyone know how much does is meter parking at
downtown Chicago. Also, is it free after a certain time?
(i.e. free after 9 p.m.?)

thanx

It varies depending on where downtown.
I know that over near Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Huron they're 25 cents for 15 minutes.

Near Clark & Belmont it's a half hour for a quarter and Sunday is no longer a free day anywhere in the city that I know of.

If your gonna be around for any length of time you may be better off finding a lot. Most of them have all day specials for 10 or 15 bucks.

Be careful about parking illegally especially in the loop,
they'll tow your car faster then you can say $150 bucks.

O.K. so if meter states that the hours of operation
is 9:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. the city can tow or ticket
your car starting at 9:01? or is it free parking at 9:01?

its free parking if you are there after the meter is enforced, so in your example, you could park from 9:01 PM to 8:59 AM for free.

The meters tend to be enforced later the further north you go. There are some meters in the loop and in old town that are not enforced after 6 PM, but most meters in lincoln park and lakeview are 9 or 10 PM in my experiences.

No, If that's what it says then you should be fine after 9pm unless otherwise posted.

You can call 312-744-PARK and they can answer you question regarding a specific date or event that your planning on attending.

At some locations in the Loop, a quarter only gets you five minutes.

Yea, .25 per 5 minutes..good 'ol city of Chicago. No wonder all the the companies ( like Motorola ) have fled never to return. They should just turn Chicago into one big Casino and bar and legalize prostitution. That would cure their finacial wowes in a hurry.

Speaking of Meters... Looks like Chicago is on a meter installation kick again. They just put in parking meters on Peterson Ave between Lincoln and Western.
This area had been free parking for years, but will all this new building and upscaling taking place near the Peterson/Lincoln junction I suppose the temptation for a few extra quarters was just too much...

The quarters they make off these meters are peanuts compared to the $50 parking tickets they're hoping for.

By the time they collect, count and deposit them they make little or no money off that quarter. The big bucks are on the many tickets they can write.

Hrm.. lets see.. $50 parking ticket, $100 city sticker fine, etc etc.

Yeah, I always get a good laugh out of those. But I'm sure one day, it'll be me with the "wallpaper"...

Not all meters are in effect on Sunday. They will have a white sticker on them alerting you if they are. The one's by me are still free on Sunday. Also, not all are until 9pm. I live in River North and a lot of them end at 5:30 or 6:30 and are still free on Sundays. Some are even free on Saturday.

In the loop, you have to be really careful of the signage on the street, in addition to the meter times. Just because a meter is in effect, doesn't mean its legal to park there. For example, there might be a sign saying you can't park there from 9am-5pm. More commonly there are signs saying you can't park during rush periods 8-10am or 4-6pm.

Oh yeah, and watch out. Some meters say 9-6:00, but look down the street and you'll see a sign saying no parking 9-7:00. Tricky corrupt bastards.

Why do they charge until 9pm in the Uptown neighborhood? They charge from 8am til 9pm Monday thru Saturday. They don't charge on Sunday. How pleasant of them to not charge on the Lords day.
