| New Foldy 7-1 Lives
The 1.9Ghz board usa2k sent me is alive and kicking -- finally. It's the only one I've currently got working. The rest of the boards are here is anyone wants to play with them. At a minimum I have some extra memory, power supplies (nice ones, too), a couple of hard drives, an various other pieces. If anyone has a need for them, let me know.

| Congrats on finally getting it up and running. Now you can work it to death folding away... -- You don't quit playing 'cause you're OLD. You're old BECAUSE you quit playing!! |

Do you think there's any life left in the boards, or do you think they are toast? (what are they anyways...) |

| I'm not sure how much life is in them, or why they are all displaying the same kernel panic. For sure, one has a bad onboard NIC, so it's using a PCI card I had in my junk box.
I've been thinking lately, they may have been choking on an extra large WU -- running out of memory for the Notfred linux environment. I haven't been able to dig in and check, but I'm second guessing my original assumption that they may be fried. I have several other systems in the house on the same circuit. However, the only ones that went out of commission (apparently as a result of a whopper thunderstorm) were the foldy boards, and they didn't all die at once.
I'll get listing of the parts, and post it back to see if you are interested in the inventory. -- Founding member of FFF -- Former Folding Farmers. I'm all better now... |

| reply to Optimum1 It not only LIVES, but is cranking out 1762 pts/day!! I finally figured out how to rearrange the output files to post correctly to usa2k's stats site -- the Starfish site still doesn't recognize this exotic WU...
Anyhoo...we're now getting some serious bang for the energy buck on this board.

You need to remove the "Tag:" line from the unitinfo.txt for the foldy monitor script to be able to read it correctly.
I posted instructions here some time back on the procedure.
But there were several options posted.

| reply to Optimum1 I should have looked closer first. Is sending the same file to both sites?
quote: 7-01-unitinfo.txt Name: P2662R0C438G2 Download time: August 9 02:03:02 Due time: August 12 02:03:02 Progress: 54% [|||||_____] Fahusername: TH_Foldinator Fahteamid: 4 Watts: 60 CPU: Intel Pentium 4 Dual SMP 1.9Ghz
Hummm... Strange.
I am not sure why the Name: field is displaying what the Tag: field is supposed to be displaying. It is the first time that I have seem that.
bbarrera has the same unit, but his is displaying correctly. Perhaps his client side script is fixing it on his side?
I could fix yours globally, but it would break the one that bbarrera has. |

| I had to twiddle with sed to drop the Name: field, which only says "Gromacs" on this unit, and substitute "Name:" for "Tag:"
When I use the Tag: field contents as the Name: usa2k's scripts work fine....
It's not the same WU as bbarrera has (IBX in water) -- same project number, different work unit.
Added: I see bbarrera did some serious shell script file mangling to get his in shape. Unfortunately, I'm using the Linux tools under Windows, and they don't handle "if" conditions the same (or as well). Recreating that under windows would take more time than I plan to spend on this fine summer weekend...
I'm running the latest version of Notfred's linux boot disk, btw. -- Founding member of FFF -- Former Folding Farmers. I'm all better now... |

| Yes the Name: field in the unitinfo.txt often does not match the protein name in the projects.csv.
With Foldy Monitor, the Name: field and protein name in the projects.csv have to match exactly. I fix most of the inconsistent ones here with a script that uses sed and a munge.txt file, then it creates the munged projects.csv file, uploads it to Jim, and he has a script that uploads it to the FM site.
Jim's monitor is a bit more forgiving, as it checks the fields by the starting tag, and not just line by line as with FM, where the unitinfo.txt file has to be formatted a certain way for it to be read correctly. It also only looks for the starting pxxxx part, so it doesn't have to match exactly to the protein name that is in the projects.csv.
I could fix it globally, as I have the others. But, as I said, it would break the one that bbarrera has fixed on his side. And although it would display the correct info, it would be displayed as "Gromacs", instead of the actual "p2662_IBX in water" that is in the projects.csv currently.
It is not hard to change the unitinfo.txt file to change the word "Gromacs" to "p2662_IBX in water".
Something like:
Then it should be acceptable to both FM and FAH-Tool.
Above method is simple, but requires a sed entry to be added for all the ones that I can't munge locally. But, there have been only a few that I was not able to do globally. p2665 being one of them, as it seems to have two different unitinfo.txt files using two different Name: fields.
Cons: It will affect any unit that displays "Gromacs" in the Name: field, and display it as "p2662_IBX in water". But, I have not seen this issue come up as yet.
Of course, it is totally up to you if you want, and have the time, to do it. |

| I originally thought about substituting the explicit project name in there, but went back an forth on the idea. I figured it would be better to have one reporting accurately than two barfing as soon as a new "Gromacs" name came out with a different project ID. But thinking about it, it's likely the client will get several of these in a row, and there's no guarantee the next time the Tag changes it won't go back to pure gibberish, like they usually are. So, we may get some mileage out of the straight swap for now -- six of one, half-dozen of another.
I changed it so both use the brute force substitution. We'll see how long it takes to break -- Founding member of FFF -- Former Folding Farmers. I'm all better now... |
