| [Siemens] Faster DSL by getting a new modem?
I currently have a Broadcom DSL modem that is over 4 years old. Would I get any faster speed by getting a Speed Stream 4100 modem? I'm not sure if my Broadcom supports ADSL2 (I'm not even sure what ADSL2 is).
My friend said I should get a newer DSL modem and recommended the Speed Stream 4100 but I'm not sure I really need it? I would buy it if I would see a performance increase though. |

| What is your current Speed Up and Down? If under 8.0 Mbps then the 4100 will not give you any benefits in speeds. Plus, when you order faster speeds, the ISP usually "gives" you a new Modem that is guaranteed to work with their DSL equipment.
Standard ADSL covers "up to" 8.0 Mbps (since 1998) ADSL2 covers "up to" 12.0 Mbps ADSL2+ covers "up to" 24.0 Mbps.

| Thanks for the info. I have 3.0 Mbps service so it sounds like the modem will not make a difference for me.
How about if I get a twist pair phone cable between the jack and the DSL modem such as the "Radio Shack ADSL patch cable"? Is that worth it? |

If you are not having issues then it would not be needed. Save your money. -- Whats the point of owning a supercar if you cant scare yourself stupid from time to time? |

join:2008-02-19 Richmond, CA | reply to mediahound I'm currently getting 2550 Kbps/415 Kbps speed.
Does that seem normal for 3.0Mbps/512kpbs level DSL? |

| said by mediahound :I'm currently getting 2550 Kbps/415 Kbps speed. Does that seem normal for 3.0Mbps/512kpbs level DSL? Again correct as there is overhead in a ADSL Connection. Your Download/Upload Sync Rates in the Modem will be higher than your actual Download/Upload Speed Test Rates because of that overhead.
