| [DCS] PS3grid.net Team
Do we have a BBR team for PS3grid.net?
Edited title to bring attention to the interest for DCS. |

Not to my knowledge, but PS3s do fold for Folding@Home. Sorry if you already knew that.

Can we create a Team then if none exist? |

| I believe a DCS member has brought it up to the DCS for consideration.
Edit: If BBR members have an interest in a BBR team being created for this, this would be a good place to express the interest and the reasons for one of our teams wanting to pick it up or not.
Some answers to these questions might be helpful in a decision-making process.
How many members of which team feel it is a worthy project and why?
Who is running the project?
What kind of support does the project have in regard to grants? (It can be helpful to see who deems it worthy of monetary support.)
What are the goals of the project?
Is it working on the same thing as any projects we already support?
Is it purely for the benefit of science or is it for profit of some entity? |

PS3GRID.net is a distributed computing project that aims at harnessing the processing power of novel accelerator processors for computational molecular biology.

| reply to glennaxl I think this is a novel concept and a project worthy of discussion and consideration. It has merit and would harness the untapped potential of the nVidia GPU as well as PS3 to do much good in the fight to understand and find cures for the betterment of mankind.
It would not dilute any existing projects because it can be run in parallel with the processes already being done with system CPUs so it is a win win concept only adding to and not taking anything away by competition. -- ****aka The WIZARD **** A Founding member Seti BBR Team Starfire**** |

| Not to be a curmudgeon, but this is far from a "novel concept"! We already have PS3 as well as GPU clients crunching merrily along in Helix, and I believe in TD as well, working hard to find cures within already established teams.
To add a new project such as this would clearly result in dilution, and as such I will be hard pressed to be convinced we need the addition.
I'm not against progress, but it has to be real, not just perceived.
Edit to correct TD info. |

| Yes, we already have PS3 and GPU clients for Folding@home but they run on different application or shall I say they have their own.
Here's the breakdown: Team - Project - Client
Discovery - WGC - BOINC Discovery - TSC - D2OL
Helix - Folding@home - Folding@home Helix - Rosetta@home - BOINC
Starfire - Seti@home - BOINC Starfire - Einstein@home - BOINC
RC5 - Distributed.net - dnetc
In this table, I can contribute to 3 Teams by using BOINC Only (CPU). It would be hard for team members having a farm to manage both.
I would say BOINC is way to go IMHO. |

Are you not able to use BOINC to contribute to those teams for some reason? You lost me on this last post, and I'm not sure where it fits into your original inquiry? |

What leaves the question now is for other plaforms. PS3 and GPU are forced to use the one and only client which is FAH. |

You can always go independent; its just a matter of what makes sense to promote for the existing teams on DSLReports.
What is here is plenty to keep the hamster wheels in motion. Even beyond dilution concerns, is limiting the range of projects where know-how, and attention are needed. If we were all things, the purpose and expertise of our memberships would be more chaotic.

I don't see why it can not be tried in the DC forum and see if it flies. It can then be seen if it is worth being added to the umbrella of an existing team. Nothing to loose with a try out. After all that is what this forum was designed for. -- ****aka The WIZARD *** A Founding member of Seti BBR Team Starfire*** |

| I think some of us could do a better job of evaluating worth if the answers to these questions could be discovered.
