| [OT] If my stats drop....
don't worry! I'll be back with a vengeance.
I run 7 computers at home 24/7. Five of those computers are single Intel P4 processors that are not energy efficient. The other two computers are Intel Core2Duos that are energy efficient. I can no longer afford the hit on my electric bill. I have started selling off my 5 Intel P4 computers (I've sold two so far) and with the funds from the sale of those computers I plan to replace them with two Intel Quad cores.
One computer has already been ordered from Dell. It's got a Q9300 processor. It's similar to the one here and I got it for $350.00 off with a coupon that was included in junk mail from Dell that came to my place of employment. It was a sweet deal. That computer should be here by 07/17.
The other computer will be my first build. I only know it will have a Q6600 processor. When I'm ready to build it, you can be sure I'll come here for recommendations on what motherboard, power supply, etc I'll need for maximum crunching power. I don't plan on overclocking it so don't try to convince me to do so.
Anyway, hope ya'll had a happy 4th of July holiday. I've spent mine fighting the internet dropping for no reason and blowing out a year's worth of dust from the P4s and reformatting the ones that have been sold. -- Team Discovery

| Good going Owlbet . Been doing the same thing myself. I upgraded my Core 2 Duo E6600 to a Quad Q6600 and have ordered the parts to rebuild my Xeon 2.8 box with another Q6600.
Selling the E6600 CPU cut the cost of the Q6600 CPU by more than half and hopefully I can recoup a good portion of the second upgrade by selling off the old dualie parts.
It's been a good cruncher but I can no longer justify the cost of running it with Dominion Virginia Power passing on an 18% increase to cover their cost in fuel.
It's a timely and smart decision to make those upgrades. Crunch on! -- Team Discovery |

| Rock on Debbie..
It's the right decision for all the right reasons, at the right time.
We're also going to see an electric bill increase here sometime soon, and though I will not ever stop crunchin'..
I am retiring a couple of older less efficient single core 'puters with the acquisition of my new quads -- ~Safe Hex~ Team Discovery ~ Project Hope ~ Like A Hurricane~ |

That's from my dual processor Xeon that was OC'd to 3.1Ghz I'd say it was a beneficial upgrade. -- Team Discovery |
